An External Hard Drive Is A Great Backup Solution ! Take It With You Anywhere You Go !

An external hard drive makes an ideal backup source. While these drives have been around for many years, it has just been in the recent months that they have become more popular and very affordable.

As the amount of data we store on our computers grows , data backups are becoming larger than ever , and as the capacity for backups increase the external hard disk is becoming more popular as a backup solution.

External drives vary in physical size , from larger units that sit on your desk to units so small they can be carried in your shirt pocket . These portable drives give you the ability to take data with you anywhere you go.

* HANDLE WITH CARE *

When moving or carrying your external hard drive always be very careful not to bump or drop . They don't have great shock protection ------------------------------------------------------------------

With storage capacities up to 500 GB they can handle just about any application . 80 - 160 and 250 GB are the most popular sizes. The larger 400 and 500 GB are a must for any business.

The two most common types of removable disk interface are Firewire and USB2. (Universal Serial Bus) USB is the most common as the newer pc's all have USB ports but not all come with Firewire installed in them . Firewire is some what faster than USB2 , but really not worth the extra expense if your pc has USB2 . More info on USB2 vs Firewire

If you have an older pc with the slower USB1 you can upgrade to the faster USB2 for around $20 . You can also upgrade to Firewire , but it's a little more pricey than USB2 .

Most external hard drives are capable of connecting to both interfaces, but some are only capable of one or the other. Keep this in mind when buying a movable hard drive.

External USB hard drives make excellent backup solutions, providing extra storage for keeping important files safe. These drives are extremely well-suited for backup purposes, because the USB 2.0 interface used on these hard drives allows almost any computer to access the drive.
